INTERESTING FACTS:
In 1863, L'Hermitte studied under Horace Lecoq de Boisbaudran at the Petite Ecole in Paris.
L’Hermitte studied with Legros, Fantin-Latour, Dalou and Rodin, as well as Jean-Charles Cazin, who became a close friend.
At the Paris Salon, he won a third prize medal in 1874 and a second prize medal in 1880.
L’Hermitte was awarded the French Legion of Honour in 1884 and the Grand Prize at the Exposition Universelle in 1889.
In 1890, L’Hermitte was a founding member of the Société National des Beaux-Arts.
L’Hermitte’s use of pastels won him accolades from his contemporaries, such as Vincent van Gogh.
